Dinner

Tonight we had company over, so Mom made a HUGE spread. We had: chicken, chicken with barbecue sauce, bratwursts, green beans, corn, Texas toast, Parmesan cheese noodles (which are fabulous), chips, veggies and dip, lemonade, coke, and they brought brownies. Doesn’t that just make you hungry?

Rain!

Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day!  Or maybe some other month?
Spring showers have certainly brought May flowers, but it’s drowning them!
It’s been raining so much here!  Mom has some newly planted fruit trees, and she’s afraid they’re going to be ruined if this keeps up.  Last year it was so dry.

You Can do Better!

You might be thinking right now, what’s better than “Firework”? I have a lot of answers. These are just a sampling of what’s out there. Instead of listening to “Firework” turn your radio knob. There’s got to be something better.

“Firework”

Katy Perry’s song, “Firework”, haunts me! I heard it at least 4 times on our trip!  The words are so inane!  I used to hear it every Sunday with my uncle.  The words are so awful, that they use phrases like: “Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?”  Why is this the song so popular?  I even hear it on ringtones.  People need to start thinking about the things they listen to.

“Firework”
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
drifting through the wind
wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
like a house of cards,
one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
6 feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
‘Cause there’s a spark in you

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe, awe, awe

You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it’s time, you’ll know

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go “Oh, Oh, Oh”
You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to let it through-ough-ough

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, Oh, Oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go “Oh, Oh, Oh”
You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Another Day in my Life

I guess it’s time to post since my siblings are singing the word “responsibility” over and over again outside, since I haven’t posted in a while.  Right now I’m getting packed to go on a weekend trip.   Which means hours with them in the van.  Great.  Other than that nothing much is going on.  We just had dinner and watched The Cosby Show, another one of the good “oldies.”  It was a big comedy series in the 80’s.  It’s about the Huxtable family.  The show stars Bill Cosby.  (You didn’t guess?)

Melissaphobia

The fear of bees.

My tall uncle suffers from this immensely-well maybe not immensely, but he’s still pretty afraid of them. When he was dating my aunt ,she was inside the house, and she and my grandma heard shrieking and slamming of the door. She told my aunt not worry- that he’d seen a bee.

Quixotic

  1. Caught up in the pursuit of unreachables; idealistic without regard to reality.
  2. Capacrious; impulsive.

This word was based on Don Quixote, written by Miguel de Cervantes in The Spanish Golden Age.  This word can refer to a hero or… someone up in the clouds.  Make sure it’s a compliment if someone calls you quixotic!

Idees fixes

My older sister and little brother are reading The Wind in the Willows.  My sister loves Mr. Toad’s wild idees fixes that get him into deep trouble.  He gets ubsessed with horse drawn caravans, motor cars, and more. He changes from one to another very quickly just like my little brother. I don’t think his is quite up to the level of Mr. Toad’s just yet.  Mr. Toad ends up getting thrown into jail for stealing something that had become his idee fixe.

Idee fixe

A fixed idea; an obsession.  This phrase describes how little brother acts to a T.  Right now he’s obsessed with Pacman and the Pacman ghosts.  Don’t ask why.

For All School-age Children:

Start planning your summer!  Do not come into school next year with an essay to write, and having only read comic books and watched television.  Start planning now before you are drafted to summer camp by a not-so-well-meaning friend!
